Key Bible Verse: For we walk by faith, not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7, ESV)
Dig Deeper: 2 Corinthians 5:4-10
God is always with us, and everything he has is available to us. We are the ones who have not utilized his heavenly resources. We stop looking for him in the people we serve at work, we stop praying for our classmates and coworkers, we lose our imagination in our churches, and we just … drift.
If being near to God is about paying attention to God’s nearness to us, then we have work to do. And yet, we must be careful. God’s presence is not something we dictate, but something God blesses us with. We cannot manipulate God by doing particular religious acts in order to summon him. He is no genie; rather, he is the Almighty God who has come near to us in Jesus Christ and can bless us with an overwhelming sense that he is near.
We need to find this balance and walk the tightrope of God’s presence by making ourselves always available, always aware of this Immanuel God. It will then be in his power to pour his blessed presence on us. We must focus on walking alongside our Father, trusting he will give us an experience of intimacy with him as he sees necessary.
