Key Bible Verse: And God has given us his Spirit as proof that we live in him and he in us. (1 John 4:13)

Dig Deeper: 1 John 4:9-17

Jesus’ primary message announced “the good news of the kingdom of God” (Luke 8:1). God has made a way, and he is now accessible through the life and work of Christ. This is why he came, proclaiming the good news to those who are mourning, spiritually bankrupt, sick, and enslaved – they are no longer outside of God’s kingdom. Now, as we believe in Jesus, the fullness of God is made manifest in the power of God’s Holy Spirit. We become God’s temple, the dwelling place of the Almighty himself.

As followers of Christ, we have the Holy Spirit now dwelling in us. Jesus gives us the Holy Spirit so God can dwell now with men and women in order to change them and empower them to do God’s will on earth as it’s done in heaven. This is not just a feeling; this is a fact for believers.

The beauty of Jesus is in the Incarnation – the transcendent God has come to be permanently immanent through the work of his Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit (John 1:14, Matt. 28:19-20). The name of Jesus always means good news, and as we work to know where God resides in our lives, we must continually look back to him as the fulfillment of “Immanuel,” God with us.
