Key Bible Verse: “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown.” (Isaiah 43:2)
Dig Deeper: Isaiah 43:1-13
In my darkest moment, in my deepest despair, Jesus had come to me in love, not to condemn me, but simply to accept me and to promise to care for me. It did not matter to him how faithless or hopeless I was. He reached out his hand and rescued me. As I sat and meditated on what had just happened, I became increasingly aware of God’s mercy in my life. Any thought of suicide was now gone from my mind. I rested in my cell, and my heart was at peace.
Fear is real, but God is bigger, and his love is stronger. There is nothing in this world more beautiful or wonderful than God himself, who invites us into relationship with him through Jesus Christ. There is no greater hope for our broken humanity than that.
I share this story for one reason – to glorify God by affirming that his beauty and love are stronger than the reality of fear. The heroes of Scripture are often described as weak, fragile, and afraid. Nevertheless, throughout the Scriptures we see that God does not turn from them – he runs to them. God embraces them and gives them a hope that eclipses their fears. He continues to do the same for us today.
