Get More Out of the Bible

If you and I want to truly be disciples of Jesus Christ, we must learn and hold to the Word of God. – Greg Laurie (Senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, California)

Key Bible Verse: The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. (Psalm 119:130, NIV)

Dig Deeper: Psalm 119:129-136

In John 8:31, Jesus says, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples” (NIV). If you and I want to truly be disciples of Jesus Christ, we must learn to hold to the Word of God.

By most measures, success or failure in the Christian life depends on how much of God’s Word we get into out hearts and minds on a regular basis and how well we obey it. The Bible teaches everything we need to know about God. If we neglect the study of Scripture, then our spiritual life will ultimately fall into disrepair.

President Abraham Lincoln once said of the Bible: “It is the best gift which God has ever given man. All the good from the Saviour of the world is communicated to us through this Book. But for that Book we could not know right from wrong. All those things desirable to man are contained in it.”

Honest Abe was exactly right.
