God specializes in redirecting those who desire a better path. – Erwin Lutzer (senior pastor of The Moody Church in Chicago)
Key Bible Verse: You have allowed me to suffer much hardship, but you will restore me to life again. (Psalm 71:20)
Dig Deeper: Psalm 32:8-11
On a recent airplane trip, the young woman seated next to me told me her story. She was pregnant, she said, after dating her boyfriend for about six months. He was willing to marry her, but she wasn’t sure that she wanted to marry him.
“I want to be married for all the right reasons, not because we have to.” If she married, she said, she’d have to settle for “second best.” Faced with the realities of her situation, there was no obvious choice; one way or another, her future was “ruined.”
Although I understood why she felt the way she did, I assured her that God is greater than the messes we create for ourselves and for others.
What happens when you feel as if you must spend the rest of your life in the ditch? Can you have the assurance that God will bless you even if your marriage has gone sour, or you’ve had a child out of wedlock, had an abortion, committed a crime, or made an investment decision that has left you in financial ruin?
