The apostle Paul’s life story reflected and reinforced his message of God’s grace. He went from being a notorious persecutor of the church and a blasphemer of Christ (v. 13) to being God’s go-to missionary to the Gentiles. God wrote Paul’s story into the unfolding pages of history, And the cool thing is, God’s writing you into his story too. Your job is to be attentive and obedient as God gradually reveals your part in his story.
Key Study Passage: 1 Timothy 1:12-17
- Why do you think God chose to write Paul’s story the way he did? (See v. 16.)
- Think of some negative experiences from your past. How has God’s grace transformed those experiences so that you aren’t negatively defined by them? (See Rom. 8:18-30; Phil. 4:12-13; 2 Cor. 12:7-10.)
- Think about the milestones in your life. What might these significant experiences from your past be saying about the trajectory of your future?
- Think about your life right now. How well are you using your gifts and talents to serve God and bring him glory? How might God be calling you to greater obedience to his plan for you?
Spend Time in Prayer: Thank God for the redemptive work he’s done in your life; confess any poor choices that keep you from living more fully for Christ; ask God to show you the specific role you have to play in his story.
