Your Father’s Approval

freed-from-approval-seeking

Key Bible Verse: So you have not received a spirit that make you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” (Romans 8:15)

Dig Deeper: Romans 8:1-17

What can deliver us from the uncertainty and the never-ending work of trying to find our significance in what we do? We need to go back to our heavenly Father. He is our perfect Father whose approval makes all the difference in the world.

We need him to put his hand on our shoulders and say, “Alright son, slow down. You’re hustling like your worth depends on your work and it’s killing you! Relax. Rest in the peace that comes from knowing that I approve of you because of Jesus. That’s final. Accept my assessment of you and stop trying to get it from people. Their approval doesn’t matter. My approval defines you forever.”

The official seal from the Father that you are satisfactory, acceptable, and approved is yours because of what Jesus has done for you. The hard work to gain your Father’s approval has already been accomplished. There is nothing left for you to do.

The approval we desire is available to us by faith in Jesus. We are loved and graciously gifted with the full righteousness of Christ through God-given faith. Because of the cross, all is well with you and God. What a relief from the crushing burden of always trying to prove our worth.
