A Cup in the Ocean

Key Bible Verse: I want you to know all about Christ’s love, although it is too wonderful to be measured. Then your lives will be filled with all that God is. (Ephesians 3:19, CEV)

Dig Deeper: Ephesians 3:14-21

[God’s] love is unlimited. Imagine taking an empty drinking cup to the beach and throwing it into the ocean. Quickly the cup would be filled with ocean water. Because of its limited capacity, the cup can never contain the entirety of the ocean in itself; yet it is completely consumed by the ocean.

Our hearts before we knew Christ were like that empty cup. At the moment of our conversion, our heart was not just filled to full capacity with the unconditional love of God but consumed by it. We will never be able to totally absorb all the love of God, and there will never be a shortage of God’s affection for the believer.

Knowing and understanding God’s affection will give you the strength and encouragement to live on-misson even when you are not receiving affirmation from others. Rather than living our lives for an audience of fallen people, we can live before an audience of One.
