Key Bible Verse: Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honour. (James 4:10)

Dig Deeper:

We’re all in different places on this journey [of sexual integrity]. Some have a lot of recovery work to do; others simply need to learn a few better methods for healthy self-care and reflecting kingdom values in our walk. Yet each of us can take steps to become healthier and, consequently, travel further down the road in our experience of sexual integrity.

The place to start is admission of our need to surrender to the path in the first place. Laying down our pride allows us to pick up humility and receive God’s grace. We put active safeguards in place for no longer returning to our old ways of sexual sin. We also begin recognizing our need for quicker and earlier surrender to God when we face future temptations. Remember, this is a sanctification skill we develop with each opportunity we have to practice it.

We then consider our need for improved discipline in becoming more emotionally aware, personalizing our journey with God, caring well for our physical bodies and leveraging a few intimate relationships in pursuit of real community. These help ensure our overall health and move us in the direction of more satisfaction with the good things God has for us. It strengthens our ability to say in the face of temptation, “No thanks, I’m full.”
