Your satisfaction comes from [God’s] work, not yours. – Matt Chandler (Lead teaching pastor for The Village Church in Dallas/Fort Worth, and president of Acts 29 church planting network)
Key Bible Verse: “And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.” (Ezekiel 36:26)
Dig Deeper: Ezekiel 36:22-38
A football teammate of mine, who wouldn’t back away from sharing Jesus with me turned out to be key in God’s “right time” providence in my life, cracking open the skeptical, doubtful resistance of my young heart. Even though I wasn’t exactly in his league athletically, he invited me to church with him: “Would you like to come this Wednesday night?”
“No, I really don’t think I would,” was my first response.
But I finally did. And while what I saw through one eye was a bunch of lame geeks and weirdos, singing corny songs, what I saw through the other eye were imperfect people, every bit as train wrecked as I was, yet pursuing God full-on with their hearts and lives and being changed by what he was doing inside them.
Even with my state of mind still pushing back, it was almost as if Jesus finally got tired of playing nice with me, and said, “Get in here, boy. You know you’re mine.” He [gave me] a new heart that he made hungry to follow him and be changed by his all-consuming grace.
