Key Bible Verse: And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labour, for these are gifts from God. (Ecclesiastes 3:13)
Dig Deeper: Ecclesiastes 3:1-13
If we see sex and marriage as ultimate, our lives will become so consumed with the wait and with what we are missing out on that we will overlook the whole point of singleness. The point is not to be obsessed with our lack of sex or our lack of a spouse, [but] to experience the fullness of life-enjoying God and others.
Singleness is all about the yes, not the no. Yes, enjoy, love, and know the God who crafted your soul to be satisfied in him. Yes, enjoy your freedom by working in a career you love, starting a non-profit for something you care about, or fighting for a cause your heart breaks over. Yes, enjoy God’s creation by tasting fine wine, eating great food, and engaging in hobbies. Yes, enjoy meaningful, healthy relationships with those of the same and of the opposite sex, because God didn’t create you to live in a box. And yes, if you find someone whom you love and want to be with for the rest of your life, marry that person. But if you don’t ever get married, it’s OK.
Whatever you do, don’t view your single life as simply a waiting season for when you are really going to live it up. Enjoy the fullness of life today.
