Key Bible Verse: I am suffering and in pain. Rescue me, O God, by your saving power. (Psalm 69:29)
Dig Deeper: Psalm 69
Right now, some of you are already at rock bottom. Others are headed that way pretty quickly. You feel like you’re out of options. Or you’re on top of the world, or headed that way pretty quickly, but wondering when it’s all going to come crashing down around you. Wherever you are, the response is the same. Pray. Pray, pray, pray. You’ve got a whole life of prayer in front of you, and if this is where it all starts – with you crying out to your Creator and Sustainer for help and comfort – then God be praised.
But if someone says to you, “Come on don’t you know prayer is a crutch?” – you know what you say back? “You’re right. It is a crutch.” Because the last time I checked, if you break your leg, you’re pretty glad to have a crutch! I don’t know about you, but honestly, I’m way past the crutch stage. I need a wheelchair. I need a gurney and an ambulance ride to the hospital. I won’t pretend. I can’t make it without Jesus. I’ve tried.
Life’s messy. So never look down on prayers that rise from the tough times. Just make sure you remember to lift up prayers during the good times, too.
