Fears Transformed

Key Bible Verse: The righteous person faces many troubles, but the LORD comes to the rescue each time. (Psalm 34:19)

Dig Deeper: Psalm 34

Only God himself, through his beauty and his love, is able to transform our experience of fear into an invitation to deeper intimacy with him. In this way, fear can push us to God.

Our culture teaches us that one of the greatest obstacles in life is fear. We are told that the best way to live life is to “face your fears.” Getting over fear is not the ultimate goal of faith. Living to discover and know God is. When I have been afraid, it has not been the departure of fear but the knowledge of God that has brought joy, peace, and contentment to my heart.

On the journey, I’ve had to ask myself some fundamental questions: Is Jesus really that loving? Is his love really bigger than my fears? Does the knowledge of his love truly bring joy, peace, and contentment? Over and over, I am discovering that the answer to these questions is a resounding, “Yes!” The love of God is that real, it is that profound. Exploring the truth about the love of God has become one of the primary ways I have learned to deal with fear in my life, because it has transformed my perspective and significantly broadened my understanding of God.
