Key Bible Verse: Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God, for you have been my partners in spreading the Good News about Christ from the time you first heard it until now. (Philippians 1:3, 5)
Dig Deeper: Philippians 1:3-11
My friend Rick McKinley has been a very helpful guide in my attempt to navigate through our changed community: Rick is a white soul brother. Like me, he has a heart to see the gospel impact our entire city, penetrating all racial and socioeconomic barriers. Besides that, Rick knows the demographic that now lives around our church community. He has pastored that slice of the population for over twelve years and has lived in their world.
[He’s explained] their value system, their worldviews and their culture. He has helped me to gain a better understanding of the needs of the new hipster crowd and of what it takes to reach them. As a result, our church is becoming increasingly diverse. We are praying and strategizing diligently to find more ways to fit into the current neighbourhood context while at the same time staying true to our core convictions and values.
Where are you trying to go in your community? Do you hope to change policies that adversely affect the underprivileged? Do you want to reach girls caught in sex trafficking? Is your passion to create a business in your community that gives a gospel witness? Wherever you are trying to go, find guides to help your cause. God has placed people in your path to help you.
