Key Bible Verse: You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea. (Micah 7:19, NIV)
Dig Deeper: Psalm 32
A woman said to me, “Pastor Lutzer, I had an abortion, and the little girl would be about three years old now if I hadn’t aborted her. When I walk into a mall and I see a girl who is about that age, I’m just absolutely overwhelmed with guilt.”
I asked her, “Did you confess your sin?” “I’ve confessed it a thousand times,” she replied.
Out of her deep pain and regret, this dear mother [was] caught in a cycle of confession, guilt, confession, guilt, and so on. [She] needed to not only accept God’s forgiveness, but also his cleansing. She didn’t need to wallow in the past each time she saw a little three year old girl. She needed to affirm God’s promise to forgive.
Now, what about the sins we’ve forgotten about, or what if we’ve done something that we don’t even view as sin, but God might see it as such? Here’s good news: If we are walking in the light of God and keeping in fellowship with him, God forgives us even for those sins that we’ve forgotten or may be unaware of. We are cleansed from these sins so that fellowship with God is not only possible, but enjoyable.
