Key Bible Verse: Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. (Psalm 23:4)
Dig Deeper: Psalm 23
[When] something pops up out of life’s left field, catching us off guard and leaving us with a feeling of emotional vertigo how do we make it through? We remind ourselves God not only knows but also cares, and we trust our Father.
Several times in the gospels, we find Jesus sleeping in the midst of turbulence while his disciples are completely undone, fretting for their lives. No, Jesus’ sleep doesn’t mean he’s unconcerned. Instead his sleep says, “I got you. We’ll get through this.”
Remember, God’s performance-free love doesn’t safeguard us from turbulent seasons. It’s not a problem-free journey. Where’s the witness in that? God doesn’t remove the valleys from his kids’ lives; he just promises to go with us through them (Psalm 23:3). It’s when we grip our Father’s hand tightly in life’s dark moments, trusting him completely and receiving his peace, that we truly display God’s amazing love, unveiling to the world where our hope rests: in the indestructible One, Jesus Christ, who loves us with his no-matter-what love.
