Key Bible Verse: You husbands must give honour to your wives. (1 Peter 3:7)
Dig Deeper: 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
It’s difficult for your wife to feel special if you’re not around her that much. I’ve seen too many men end up with a destroyed marriage because of an affair, and I’m not talking about another woman. They have an affair with their job, their hobby, the Internet, their friends, or the like. An affair can occur whenever you take the time and energy that rightfully belongs to your wife and invest it elsewhere. [But you make your wife feel special when you put her near the top of the list of priorities rather than at the bottom.]
One of the other ways to make your wife feel special is to make sure you’re home whenever you’re home. That’s right—be sure you’re home when you’re there.
Here’s one way to be sure you’re fully present at home. Set aside a period of transition between work and other parts of the day. This transition time is designed to provide a “decompression period” so that any pressures, frustrations, fatigue, anger, or anxiety that may have been generated will be less likely to affect marital communication. Some husbands pray as they drive home, committing the day’s activities to the Lord. Others visualize how they are going to respond to each family member.
