Being Light

Key Bible Verse: Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. (Philippians 2:15)

Dig Deeper: Philippians 2:12-16

We must strive to be more like God so that we can be used as his perfectly functioning mirror of truth to others. We must seek out the broken ones, the forgotten and hurting ones, the physically and spiritually impoverished ones, the ones imprisoned by lies, and hold up the eternal image of God, whose light shines through us to bring healing and restoration. We are the light of the world, so our words of gentle affirmation must replace the words of hatred and pain that have marred many lives.

As a father I often consider the awesome privilege and responsibility of reflecting God to my children. I know that I am supposed to reflect God to them be being loving, gracious, and kind; by being a provider and protector; by being humble, gentle and wise; by being righteous, just and blameless. And the list goes on. Now that is pressure! I know that I will be imperfect in reflecting these and many other facets of our infinite God, but what a privilege to have the ability to engender in them those bright qualities of a loving God.

As people called to be light, we have that same responsibility and privilege to reflect God to our spouse, co-workers, and all others.
