Seeing Growth

Key Bible Verse: I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. (Philippians 1:6)

Dig Deeper: Philippians 1:1-11

We feel [pressure] to perform in order to receive encouragement from those we want to please. But when we begin to look at the reality of God’s affection for us, we will be able to walk into a newfound freedom in Christ. Within God’s grace, we can be free from the pressure we put on ourselves to receive affirmation from others because God’s love and affection toward us is constant!

In Romans 5:5, Paul [said], “This hope will not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us” (HCSB). The hope that God supplies us with allows us to see our growth and development in our walk with Christ. But we don’t always notice the changes at first.

In the same way, we sometimes don’t see the spiritual growth in others until they experience a season of heartache or suffering and their response allows us to see how much they’ve grown in Christ. In our own lives, we may think that we are still infants in our walk with Christ, but in his grace he has matured us and provided us with enough endurance to not respond sinfully to situations that would have ensnared us earlier on in our walk.
