the-power-of-abiding-in-christ

Key Bible Verse: “When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.” (John 15:8)

Dig Deeper: Mark 6:1-13

Abiding means “staying” and only by “staying” with Christ in relationship do we have any hope of bearing disciple-making fruit among all peoples, as we have been commissioned by Christ to do. We are totally insane when we wake and work and busy ourselves with ministry outside of an abiding relationship with Christ. Not realizing that we have a supernatural anointing of the Holy Spirit, we toil and labour day and night in ministry and reap ever so very little. All the while, if we would just return to an abiding relationship with Christ, we might have access to the full power of Christ.

Could it be that the church today bears so little fruit proportional to our size, resources, and the energy put forward because we abide in Christ so little and access his power so rarely? It is jaw-dropping to consider the vast impact of the early church with regard to their incredibly small pool or resources. Where did the apostles get their spiritual power? Where did the early church get their momentum? It came from none other than the Holy Spirit that was poured out on them at Pentecost. We are able to draw upon the power of Christ to use in ministry inasmuch as we abide in Christ in a loving relationship with him.
