Key Bible Verse: Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. (Ephesians 4:29)
Dig Deeper: Proverbs 15:23; 25:11; Isaiah 50:4
If we reflect on our faith journey, most of us can point to at least one experience with encouragement. There was someone who comforted us during a difficult time. There was a friend who counselled us in the midst of a critical decision. There was a mentor who spoke honestly when we needed a strong word of exhortation. This is why words of encouragement should flow freely.
[Encouragement] is not solely for the benefit of my friend’s personal faith journey, either. It also serves to further the gospel. It serves the greater ministry of the church as it keeps people moving toward God, and it gives them fuel to keep following the Spirit’s leading.
Christ followers need encouragement. It’s something we must passionately pursue for ourselves and intentionally seek to offer to others. The strength of the church depends on it.
Speak it. Write it. Type it. Preach it. Teach it. Offer encouragement freely.
