Stepping Into the Light

Being Light

Key Bible Verse: “But anyone who lives by the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be shown to be accomplished by God.” (John 3:21, HCSB)

Dig Deeper: John 3:16-21

“The darkness has not overcome [the light]” (Key Bible Verse). There is an enduring promise and hope in that statement. Light has and will overcome darkness. It is up to us to accept that promise and step out of the shadows into the light. No matter our circumstances, no matter how bleak the future may appear – we will stand in the knowledge that we are the light of the world, and the light in us will overcome the darkness so that we can shine the light of truth in our world.

We must take an inventory of our lives and remove the darkness so that our light may shine. We need to look deeply into our souls and ask God to find the darkness in us and confront it so that we can reflect his hope in the most bleak places and situations.

If there is no darkness in God (1 John 1:5), then we need to draw close to him to fully shines. We better reflect the light of God as we draw near to him. We can take a step and do just that today. His light will burn away any darkness and cause a new, enduring light in us to shine out to others.
