Key Bible Verse: But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. (Isaiah 53:5)
Dig Deeper: Isaiah 53
Look at Jesus. Bearing the wrath of God for you. Every trial you face can only be the medicine of a Good Physician – little treatments for your idolatrous soul. Every affliction you meet is the tangible mercy of God loosening your grip on a fleeting world. Your misfortunes are all mercy. See him, and know that they could not be anything else. See how heaven ordered such deep pain for the salvation of the world and for your soul, and know that if his deepest pain will never be wasted, neither will yours. Look at the cross and know that because of the cross, you will never suffer as much as you should.
Why this? Why now? Why me?
What about … Why have you forsaken me?!
If we see Jesus screaming “why” in our place, we will never scream “why” again in despair, only in wonder.
Why would you love me? Why would you die for me? Why?
“He who did not spare his own Son, but delivered him over for us all, how will he not also with him freely give us all things” (Rom. 8:32, NASB)?
Why, Lord? Why?!?
Do you see? This is what melts the heart. The blazing center – the cross. See the glory. Be changed.

My Response: What trial has God used (or is he currently using) to treat my “idolatrous soul”?
Thought to Apply: Once you have been to the cross, you will never be the same. – Billy Graham (evangelist)
