Yearning for Intimacy

The key to experiencing true sexual joy and satisfaction can be found only within God’s design. – Hafeez Baoku (founder of the Urban Gospel Mission and curator of Escaped the Box, Inc.)

Key Bible Verse: For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. (Galatians 5:13)

Dig Deeper: Galatians 5:13-26

If someone had told the nineteen-year-old me that I would become a Jesus-loving Christian, stop sleeping around, stop watching porn, and stop manipulating women, I would have thought they were cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs. Yet God is alive and real; he still works miracles, changes lives, and heals the hearts of men and women around the world.

One of the hardest things for me after giving my life to Christ was to learn how to live without [sex]. After learning that I could only have sex in marriage, I [wanted] to be married to every girl in the world.

Over time, I’ve realized how looking at marriage only as an opportunity for sex and not having healthy relationships with women was actually fuelling my sexual frustration and hindering my sexual satisfaction. While we all have a biological, physical need that sex fulfills, sex actually meets our emotional and spiritual needs for intimacy more than it does our biological ones, … [and] the emotional act of being loved and giving love [is] something we can experience in our singleness.
